Dr. Mathews is an active member of the Sports Medicine Council of B.C. and is on the medical staff as the team podiatrist for the Vancouver Whitecaps soccer club. Before the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Dr. Mathews had the pleasure of working with the Canadian Men’s Basketball team, making many of the players’ orthotics and helping with chronic foot and ankle injuries. Dr. Mathews has recently been using both the Stay Fuse procedure for Hammertoes and the Minimally Invasive Neuroma Decompression (MIND) for Morton’s Neuromas. Dr. Mathews performs most of his procedures under local anesthetic with only oral sedation in office operating rooms. This allows for less risk of complications from anesthesia and and lets the patient leave the operating facility as soon as the surgery is complete.

Dr. Mathews has experience in many sports, with links to professional and national level teams and athletes in the Canada. He specializes in treating active people and athletes for injuries involving the foot and ankle. There is a definite link between abnormal gait pattern and sports injuries. By controlling the way the feet work (foot mechanics) and ensuring the patterns of movement are functioning correctly, the risk of injury will be reduced and sporting proficiency will be increased

Why visit Dr. Mathews?
Dr. Mathews will help you to put your best foot forward, whether you’re old or young, an athlete or an office worker. He specializes in treating the cause of foot ailments to ensure that they don’t return. This includes surgical re-alignment, medical treatment, biomechanical control and gait control of the feet.
