ART - Active Release Technique

services : A.R.T.® active release technique

what is A.R.T.® active release technique?

A.R.T.® is a patented soft-tissue, movement based treatment system designed to remove small areas of scar tissue or “adhesions” that develop in muscles, tendons, ligament, or fascia as a result of injury and/or overuse.

Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  1. Acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
  2. Accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  3. Not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue, known as myofascial adhesions. These adhesions bind up and tie down tissues that need to move freely. As a result, there can be less range of motion, decreased strength and pain. If a nerve is entrapped there may also be numbness and tingling.

The A.R.T.® provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of the soft tissues. Adhesions are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements. There are over 500 specific moves that are unique to A.R.T.®, to treat a wide variety of conditions.

A.R.T.® was originally developed for elite athletes, but it has been found to be very helpful in the treatment of repetitive strain injuries from activities at work or activities of daily living.  It can also enhance the performance of recreational and competitive athletes.
